Greetings! Hard to believe that June (June!) is almost over. With new service launches, key international partnerships and our fintech service reaching a significant milestone, it’s been a pretty busy month for Kakao. Let’s check it out:

Since launching in Sept. 2014, Kakao Pay has evolved from a mobile payment service to a full-on financial platform offering everything from money transfers to utility bill management. And in less than 2 years, we’ve hit 10 million total users. That’s a first for any Korean fintech service and we are mighty thankful to all of our users.

Korea’s got a terrific subway system, and it’s a great way to get around and experience all the sights and sounds. However, it can be a little overwhelming if you’re not familiar with the system. This article highlights the numerous user-friendly features of the recently revamped Kakao Metro app, including landmark suggestions for key subway stops. Kakao Metro is available in English, with a Chinese version in the works as well.

Last January we announced AD+, a new revenue model for our partners in the Kakao Game platform. Game companies that take part in AD+ will be able to generate revenue via in-game ads and participate in a much more flexible profit-sharing structure. Details of the new policy were announced on June 20th through the Kakao Game Center (https://gamecenter.kakao.com).

In other gaming news, Kakao announced a partnership agreement with Duodian Network, best known for the Android app emulator Nox App Player. The deal will lead to a PC emulator specific to Kakao Game that will allow users to enjoy many of our top titles on the PC.

Kakao is teaming up with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to create a Singapore edition of Traveline, our travel information app. Traveline Singapore is expected to launch within the year, and Kakao and the STB are currently exploring futher partnership opportunities.
