Kakao reported its second quarter financial results on August 11th. It’s the first to reflect earnings from Loen Entertainment, acquired last March, and Kakao’s consolidated revenue for the quarter was KRW 376.5 billion, with operating income of KRW 26.6 billion. Kakao’s content business, which includes Kakao Game and Kakao Page, showed particularly strong growth, resulting in a 107.9% increase QoQ and 215.2% increase YoY.

If you were jonsing for a Kakao Friends camera filter, Kakao’s got you covered. Kakao Talk Cheez, an app that lets you decorate pics with all your favorite Kakao Friends characters, is scheduled to release in August. Photos and videos taken with the app can be used as your Kakao Talk profile and shared through various platforms.

My Home for Kakao is the latest title from Kakaogame S, Kakao’s game publishing brand. A social networking game where users can grow and build various items to decorate their houses, it also features IU, one of Korea’s biggest recording artists, as an in-game character! Along with your friends’ houses, you can visit IU to check out her house and cooking skills. IU is also Kakao Game’s official endorser, so we’re producing a number of exclusive content with her, starting with a music video.

User in Korea can now book their next hair appointment straight from Kakao Talk through Kakao Hair Shop. With the new service, users can search from over 1,500 hair saloons nationwide with the option to filter shops by location, hair style, parking availability and more. Kakao plans to expand the number of shops to 4,000 by the end of the year.

Kakao’s MelOn is Korea’s largest music streaming and downloading service, and its huge library of content will be available through ARIA, an AI-powered speaker being developed by SK Telecom. ARIA may be available as soon as this year.
